The Dangers of Speeding on the Road
At some point or another, most drivers have pushed the speed limit while out on the road. Whether you’re in a rush to get somewhere or simply feel the need to pass another vehicle, speeding can become a common occurrence on the road.
Although many people don’t see the harm in pushing the speed limit, 2019 reports from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showed that 9,478 people were killed due to speeding.
To paint a clearer picture, here are the common dangers of speeding:
An increased stopping distance is needed to avoid a collision
The chances of a rollover crash increase
A driver has a greater potential of losing control of their vehicle
The crash severity is higher if an accident does occur
Those who speed are likely to engage in other risky driving behavior
The effectiveness of occupant protection equipment becomes reduced
Carbon emissions are released into the air when a vehicle travels at high speeds
The economy becomes affected by the cost of speed-related crashes
In addition to these dangers, the driver is at risk for traffic tickets and criminal consequences. Not only that, but speeding drivers put themselves, their passengers, and other drivers on the road in danger.
Choosing to speed is never worth the consequences that come with it. The next time you’re on the road and feel the need to speed, take a minute to think about the dangers, and proceed at the posted speed limit
